ORIGINS

Shebitku (also known as Shebitqo, Shabataka, and Sethos), was the second Kushite pharaoh of the 25th dynasty of Egypt. Shebitku was the successor and son of Nubian-Egyptian conqueror and pharaoh Piye, the founder of the 25th dynasty of Egypt.

HIS REIGN

Shebitku’s prenomen (throne name) was Djedkare, which means Enduring is the soul of Re. It is believed that his queen was a woman named, Arty, who was also daughter of pharaoh, Piye. He would rule Egypt from 714-705 BC.

ANCIENT GREEK WRITINGS ON SHEBITKU BY HERODOTUS

Herodotus, the ancient Greek historian and geographer, considered by many to be the Father of History wrote about Sethos (most likely a corruption of the name Shebitku), in his ancient text Histories. In Book II, Chapter 141 of Histories, Herodotus writes about a High Priest of Ptah named, Sethos, who became pharaoh of Egypt and defeated the Assyrian Empire with intervention from the divine.
