In Palm Beach County, Florida, A significant development has occurred in the case of Timmie Lee Knox, a Black teenager who was left paralyzed after being tasered by a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy in 2021. Last week, the Palm Beach Post reported that a $5.5 million settlement has been reached in the incident, which was partially captured on the deputy’s Taser video.
Timmie Lee Knox was just 17 years old at the time of the incident. He was reportedly on his way to a kids’ party when the encounter with the deputy took place, the details of which have been central to the subsequent legal action. The use of the Taser by the deputy resulted in Knox suffering paralysis.
This case gained wider attention not only due to the severity of Knox’s injuries but also because it marked the second instance within a decade where an unarmed Black man was paralyzed by deputies from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. This pattern has raised serious concerns about the use of force by the agency, particularly against Black individuals.
The existence of Taser video footage was a key element in the case.
