FIRST BLACK WOMAN REPUBLICAN CONGRESS WOMAN LIFE AND LEGACY HONORED AFTER HER DEATH

  On Monday,  family and friends gathered to honor the life and legacy of former U.S. Representative Mia Love. State lawmakers and members of the public also paid their respects at the Utah Capitol.

 Love was the first Black woman Republican to be elected to Congress when she represented the state of Utah from 2015 to 2019. Love also served as mayor from 2010 to 2014, becoming the first Black woman to become a mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah.

She died from brain cancer on March 23 at her home in Saratoga Springs, Utah, weeks after her daughter announced she was no longer responding to treatment.
